| Samoa is made up of two main islands situated east of the International Date Line approximately 8 hrs flying time from Sydney. The
combination of stunning beaches and unspoilt rainforests make this a true island getaway. Samoa has held onto many of the traditional
Polynesian ways “Fa’a Samoa” (the Samoan way) continues to play a major role in village and community life. The Samoan’s are a
very religious people with the church forming the central building in most villages and Sunday being observed as a day of rest, many
shops will not be open and care should be taken driving thru villages, it is highly recommended to attend a church service for Gospel
style singing. Samoa offers a play ground of natural beauty including waterfalls, mountain hikes, lava flows, blow holes, surfing, and
secluded beaches. All this is set amongst a back drop of little development and 160,000 friendly locals, who demonstrate a very relaxed pace of life. |

The two islands of Samoa offer a great
opportunity for a self drive holiday,
distances are not large, traffic is
minimal and the opportunity to stop
and admire abounds. Driving is on the
right, same as Australia; a speed limit
of around 55 km/h outside of villages
and 35 km/h within applies and watch
out for children and animals. Your
domestic licence needs to be endorsed
by the local authorities prior to driving
around. There is a passenger and car
ferry connecting the two islands. Fuel
up in town as service stations are not
everywhere! |
